Taylor Momsen, eyes coated in thick rings of her trademark black eyeshadow, writhes and contorts on a table in a scene reminiscent of the Last Supper. She throws food, smashes glasses, and crawls off the table wearing little more than a leotard and a pair of clear heels.

The scene is from the just-released music video for a song called “Miss Nothing,” but it has people saying a lot about the 16-year-old singer.

Momsen (most well known for playing Jenny Humphrey on TV’s “Gossip Girl”) takes obvious pleasure in shocking people with an aggressively sexual persona. But as the frontwoman for the Pretty Reckless, playing today at the West Palm Beach stop of the Vans Warped Tour punk rock festival, she insists she’s just telling stories.

The 16-year-old Gossip Girl actress and wannabe rocker will front ads for the designer’s as-yet-unnamed new women’s fragrance, which launches this Autumn. With such a prestigious campaign, Momsen is certainly now hitting the big league after her modellng debut last year for New Look. And it’s no coincidence that she has been chosen to represent brands created by two die-hard rebels - maverick genius Galliano, and controversy-courting Madonna.

Taylor Momsen has long blonde hair, stripper shoes with dollar bills in the heels and a low bullshit tolerance. If you read gossip blogs, you already know that much is true. What you might not know, unfortunately, is that the girl can wail. The girl can rock. But this has been overshadowed by scurrilous nonsense.

She’s also one of the stars of the CW’s hit series Gossip Girl, although you’d never know it lately, as her revealing stage outfits have garnered more press in recent months than the once ultra-hot show has in years. Save for whispers about the cast, and her rumored desire to be released from her contract. There’s always the whispers. (Hi, Chase Crawford!) Momsen couldn’t care less. She just wants you to hear her out.

The majority of the leggy 16-year-old’s biggest detractors lately are, unsurprisingly, the ones she has the least in common with. While that’s not a shocking revelation, perhaps it should be clarified: Momsen is a rock chick. Always has been. The ones throwing verbal and digital shade at her at the moment likely are not, although there have been other and older critics who cite more concern over her sexy stage wear and penchant for wearing walk-of-shame-esque makeup and related attire on the streets of New York. Kevin Lyman (Warped Tour Creator) talked about The Pretty Reckless in a Interview for BlareMagazine. Read below:

Blare:
There’s always that surprise artist on the tour, like Kid Rock or Katy Perry. This year, critics can’t wrap their heads around Taylor Momsen and The Pretty Reckless. Why did you choose her?

Kevin:
I really liked her demo tapes. I listened to her stuff and thought she was talented, especially for her age and the type of music her band plays. What do you think of her?

‘Blare:
She is talented even if she is an actress on the show Gossip Girl.

Kevin:
Exactly. She’s on the tour because of her talent. All I keep hearing is critics saying this and critics saying that. To be honest, the critics can go do their own tour. If they don’t like ours and the artists we bring on, then they can go f*ck themselves. They’re not doing a tour like this and no one is, so they shouldn’t be quick to judge an artist.

‘Gossip Girl’ star Ed Westwick, who plays super smooth Chuck Bass in the show, reckons his co-star Taylor Momsen is ‘a bit too young’ to date.

Ed, 23, might think 16-year-old Taylor is too young but he thinks the other girls in the show, such as Blake Lively and Leighton Meester, are ‘all good’.

Speaking to Australia’s NW magazine, Ed said: “I think they’re all good in their own way”.

“They’re all very different, you know. I mean obviously Taylor’s a bit too young but the others are all good in their own way.”

He also reckons Taylor’s undergone a transformation since she first appeared in Gossip Girl.

The actress has now gone for a more ‘rock chick’ look in suspenders and platform heels as she fronts her band, The Pretty Reckless.

Westwick added: “I was looking at a picture of her from the start of Gossip Girl, then the current ones, and it’s like, er, two different people”.

“I think she’s experiementing with a certain look, maybe she’s doing a band thing, so I think maybe some of her idols that she looks up to – whether it be Joan Jett or something like that – maybe she’s using them as a reference for her dress.”
