DVDs to be released Tuesday
Posted by: Ryvos | 2 Comments | Categories: Articles, Movies.

• The 1959 animated film “Sleeping Beauty” was the final fairy tale produced by Walt Disney himself. It was the studio’s most ambitious film to date, a widescreen spectacle with a gorgeous Tchaikovsky score. Now the film has been fully restored using digital technology; it will be released Tuesday on a two-disc Platinum Edition DVD.

Recent box-office releases that are coming on disc Tuesday include:

The Happening – Mark Wahlberg, Zooey Deschanel, John Leguizamo and Betty Buckley star in this deeply unsettling story in which an inexplicable event threatens the survival of humankind. It was directed by M. Night Shyamalan and is rated R.

Paranoid Park – It’s a good week for getting scared. Gabe Nevins, Jake Miller, Taylor Momsen and Lauren McKinney are featured in director Gus Van Sant’s story of a skateboarder who accidentally kills a security guard and falls into a world of crime, guilt and fear. It, too, is rated R.

The Visitor – Tom McCarthy directs Richard Jenkins, Hazz Sleiman and Hiam Abbas in a drama about a college professor and recent widower who discovers a pair of homeless illegal immigrants living in his New York apartment. After the mix-up is resolved, he invites them to stay with him, and a delightful friendship ensues. “The Visitor” is rated PG-13.

You Don’t Mess With the Zohan – Adam Sandler stars as a Mossad agent who fakes his own death so he can move to New York and become a hairstylist. Rob Schneider, Henry Winkler, Mariah Carey and John Turturro make appearances in the comedy, rated PG-13.

Stylish ‘Gossip Girl’ actress Taylor Momsen recently showed up to the Metropolitan Opera season opener in a red dress that, while gorgeous, showed a bust and neckline more appropriate for someone born in … say, 1983 as opposed to 1993. At just 15 years old, Momsen’s got the taste police on alert, as New York Magazine declares:

Taylor Momsen: Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow
Posted by: Ryvos | 4 Comments | Categories: Articles, News.

Gossip Girl cutie Taylor Momsen, aka Jenny Humphrey, has gone from long and wavy locks to short and cute to rocker chic. Now the 15-year-old actress has been sporting an 80’s-inspired haircut and rough-and-tough bangs.

Why the sudden rocker chick look?

The new look was precipitated by her character’s evolution,” a source close to the 15-year-old actress tells JustJared.com. “But Taylor is also personally enjoying the change.

“Almost-Famous” by TeenVogue.com

Introducing Hollywood’s next big things: a brilliant cast of characters with breakout roles in the most buzzed–about TV shows and films.

Taylor Momsen This year, Taylor, fourteen, plays two very different girls named “Jennifer,” with the premieres of director Gus Van Sant’s new film, Paranoid Park (as “a status–obsessed cheerleader”), and The CW’s Gossip Girl (as a naive New York City high school freshman). “I started acting when I was three,” she says. “My first major film was How the Grinch Stole Christmas. And it all kind of went from there.

Jake MillerI was in Portland on a road trip with friends, and they heard about this casting call,” says the Boise, Idaho, native. So Jake, sixteen, was surprised when he got a role in Paranoid Park. But after filming, he curbed his “whatever” attitude. “We improvised a lot; it was so relaxed,” he says. “I want to keep acting. This has been amazing.

Gabe Nevins Gabe wasn’t looking to be a movie star. The sixteen–year–old from Milwaukie, Oregon, stopped by auditions for the indie Paranoid Park to be a skateboarding extra. Instead, he was cast as the lead. “I was blown away,” Gabe says. “I didn’t even know who Gus Van Sant was. But I saw Elephant and Good Will Hunting, and I really enjoy his style. Now, all I watch are art films. It totally changed me.

The It Girl of Gossip Girl
Posted by: Ryvos | 2 Comments | Categories: Articles, Gossip Girl, Interviews.

The young woman who approached the table by the window at the Pinkberry on Eighth Avenue and 18th street was nervous, breathless. She was sorry to interrupt, sorry to be a bother, she said. It was just that she loved Taylor Momsen so much.

The just-barely-15-year-old Ms. Momsen, who plays aspiring queen bee Jenny Humphrey on the CW show Gossip Girl, gave the woman—who looked to be at least in her mid-20s, and was clutching a napkin and shaking like a whippet in winter—a warm, practiced smile and helped her locate a pen and piece of paper so she could sign the autograph on something suitable. Ms. Momsen scribbled her name with a girlish curlicue flourish, and offered a friendly wave goodbye as her fan skipped elatedly out the door.

It’s a regular occurrence now for Ms. Momsen (“The older girls get nervous. The younger girls, cry,” she said), who, over the summer, has become the obsession of a strange and ragged slice of New York. Even as her co-stars have ascended the ladder of gossip-worthiness—the golden-locked goddess Blake Lively and the impressively sideburned Penn Badgley have had a very public romance while dandy-dressing, secretly English Ed Westwick has hardly been shy about his carousing—Ms. Momsen has emerged as the show’s true It Girl: admired, lusted after and, of course, scorned. Girls and young women covet her style (which ranges from bright, simple and sophisticated to mix-and-match punk). Boys and men—in their teens and 20s and beyond—can’t help but be drawn to her coltish beauty (even as that fact could make them uncomfortable). And there are the requisite haters, too, so unnerved by Ms. Momsen’s uncanny poise and sudden ubiquity that they can’t help but snipe at her. As photographs of her—on location for Gossip Girl, making the rounds at parties and movie premieres, riding the subway around her newly adopted city—have cropped up on celeb-tracking blogs and Web sites, they’ve also collected captions and comments snarky and vicious enough to be straight from the cell phone of Gossip Girl’s eponymous blogger.

Taylor Momsen: Gossip Girl’s It Girl?
Posted by: Ryvos | 3 Comments | Categories: Articles, Gossip Girl.

Taylor Momsen, who plays social climber Jenny Humphrey on Gossip Girl, has quickly becoming the breakout star of the CW show, according to the New York Observer. While her co-stars Chace Crawford and Blake Lively have their share of fans, the Observer says that Momsen’s portrayal of the manipulative Jenny Humphrey saved the show from an early death.

In the book series the show is based off of, Jenny is a “busty, curly-haired” social outcast “who is constantly getting trampled on.” But producers decided early on to take her character in a different direction.

We wanted a character that in this journey of trying to fit in at school might actually succeed in her goal and even triumph over the other girls at some point,” said show writer Stephanie Savage.

So far Jenny has triumphed, briefly dethroning queen bee Blair Waldorf (Leighton Meester) in the middle of season one, and while she fell out of the in crowd, next season (which starts September 1) will bring some new drama for her.

Savage, who is the driving force behind the character, calls Jenny the new Eve Harrington, the scheming character from 1950’s movie All About Eve who inserts herself into Broadway star Margo Channing’s life and destroys Channing in the process.

Says Savage: “With Jenny, there’s that sense of a very intelligent, observant young girl looking around and going, ‘You know, I’m not as rich as these girls, and I don’t have that leg up because of my family, but I’m just as pretty and I think that I’m smarter, so if I play my cards right, I can win this game.’” –Emmet Sullivan

Taylor Momsen Is 80 Percent Leg
Posted by: Ryvos | Comment | Categories: Articles.

Since we are such awkwardly rabid fans of Gossip Girl, today’s Observer profile of Taylor Momsen doesn’t teach us much that we didn’t already know. It’s mostly a recap of the role that her character, Jenny, plays on the show. But we did appreciate this little tidbit about Lil J’s ten-foot-long legs (it’s true, we’ve seen them in person, they account for at least two-thirds of her body mass):

Her legs are epic, long and stretching out from here to forever — and, she pointed out, covered with nicks and cuts. “They take up most of my body, and I’m not used to coordinating them,” she said. (She did, in fact, later trip on the sidewalk, and she still seemed embarrassed when she told the story of her grand entrance her first day on the Gossip Girl set when she wiped out before she could even say her name.)

“Covered with nicks and cuts”? We don’t buy the “clumsy” cover-up — this is clearly a plot point. After last season’s dizzying highs and terrifying lows, it was inevitable that the Gossip Girl writers would have Jenny venture into that most patrician of teen girl practices: self-harm.
